Are you a fan of famous Edwardian novels and stories? Do you still enjoy reading Sherlock Holmes, Chronicles of Narnia, The Wind In The Willows, or Peter Pan? Do you love classic illustrated children’s books? Then bring your family and children to a very special series of workshops with artist and illustrator Jonathan Barry, at the Andrews Gallery, Titanic Belfast on Saturday 23rd August 2014, and enjoy a day of art, literature, and storytelling.

Jonathan Barry currently has a major exhibition of his paintings on show at Titanic Belfast until 31st August. The purpose of these workshops is to give children and young people a chance to see Jonathan’s exhibition first hand, and to meet personally with the artist. During these sessions Jonathan will be discussing his career as an artist and illustrator of over 70 books.

He will be reading extracts from some of the books he has illustrated, including The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Harry Potter, and Dracula, and will be sharing his fascination and love for these stories.

The Titanic is a subject the artist is passionate about, and during these talks Jonathan will discuss his series of Titanic paintings, and why he admires Captain E.J. Smith who the artist has painted in an intimate portrait. The artist will be showing the children his original pencil drawings and explaining how he completes his paintings. The workshops will conclude with a visit by Jonathan and the children to the original Drawing Offices of Harland & Wolff, to see Thomas Andrew’s Office.
