Knaus Tabbert GmbH, one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of motorhomes and caravans, invests a total of €13.5 million in the expansion and modernization of its plants, thereby establishing the necessary preconditions both for completely new production technologies and for trendsetting products. “We want to be a trendsetter in the caravaning industry also in the future”, says Gerd Adamietzki, managing director of Knaus Tabbert GmbH, explaining the high investment amount. In this connection the manufacturer also announced that the presentation of the KNAUS Travelino lightweight-construction caravan that was planned for this summer would be postponed by about nine months.

Travelino study – functional and extremely light

At last year’s Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf Knaus Tabbert GmbH caused quite a stir with its Travelino lightweight-construction study. The caravan’s body technology is based on extremely light materials with paper honeycomb core. Despite their clearly lower weight these materials ensure better stability than conventional sandwich components. Furthermore, the study’s interior concentrates on absolute functionality. For example, the flexible toilet room can be enlarged when required, and otherwise is reduced to a minimum area. The slidable wardrobe, which during the night can be pushed into the washing room, offers the same functionality.

“The Travelino represents our new understanding of lightweight-construction, which as of now is anchored in the DNA of every single product”, explains Adamietzki. “This also is why it is so important for us to take sufficient time for this. For us this lightweight-construction project opens new possibilities with respect to production and assembly technologies, which will have a positive effect on costs and on flexibility and quality, and in addition offer considerable potentials relating to the transfer of these benefits also to other products of our company. These technologies of course will be included in our plant planning.”

All the new models and the complete motorhome, caravan, and camper van product portfolio of the KNAUS, TABBERT, WEINSBERG and T@B brands will be presented at the Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf, halls 15 and 16, from 29 August up to and including 6 September 2015.
