Better Towing with BPW Technology

Elddis is the only major UK touring caravan manufacturer to use BPW chassis technology. We believe that this exclusive partnership provides our Customers with better functionality, greater safety and, overall, a far better towing experience.
BPW is the largest axle manufacturer in Europe and despite being the preferred chassis supplier to our Continental competitors, Elddis is their only major UK manufacturing partner. BPW are world-renowned for their heavy duty axles, but it is their innovations in leisure vehicle chassis and components that make them our choice and make our products uniquely different.

Elddis’ Swing Vtec Chassis is superior, we believe, to the standard chassis design commonly utilised by our UK competitors. The BPW Swing Vtec is a cantilever design which is proven to improve stability, improve cornering and give smoother towing. The axle literally swings down to meet the road surface when cornering, ensuring maximum tyre contact with the road at all times.

Hitching, too, is easy and fool-proof with a single-lever one-handed operation for both connection and applying the stabiliser. Typically on UK competitor models there is a separate lever for each of these actions, so we believe that the BPW Fast Coupling WS3000 Winterhoff Stabiliser on Elddis models is much simpler. Recent press tests praised the Winterhoff stabiliser for its ‘outstanding stability control’ and confirmed that ‘hitching is quicker and easier’.

BPW iDC (Intelligent Drive Control) comes as standard on all Elddis Crusader models and on luxury sister-brand Buccaneer, and is an option on Avante and Odyssey ranges. This works like the electronic stability programme (ESP) in your car, detecting and eliminating any critical snaking in unfavourable driving conditions. However, unlike the system on UK competitor models, iDC has Failsafe ® technology, designed to release the brakes and revert to normal towing should power to the iDC be lost. This means that with Elddis the brakes cannot lock on in such circumstances.

Whilst industry experts praise Elddis for our ‘superior ride quality’ and ‘all-round better driving comfort’, independent tests have also rated BPW components as class-leading amongst all European caravan chassis suppliers. In RWTuV (Germany’s Institute for Vehicle Technology) benchmarking tests, BPW outclassed its rivals in every area, including: safety during towing; handling and maintenance. BPW scored maximum points in 9 out of the11 categories.

Elddis touring caravans have also recently been put through their paces with Endurance Testing at the Iveco track in Germany, one of the most punishing tracks in Europe with the most stringent testing. After simulating 5 years of usage on the toughest of terrains, our caravans remained structurally safe and intact, undamaged – and still looking great. See the testing for yourself and find out more about Elddis’ exclusive partnership with BPW on our website http://www.elddis.co.uk/bpw-technology.html
