Leading by example: Extraordinary campsites with extraordinary activities

Campsite holidays are all about fun and relaxation, freedom and fresh air. A campsite’s location,
its friendly welcome, its facilities all have a bearing on quality. But one continental campsite group
is taking the activities it lays on for guests to a whole new level of extraordinariness.
Since 1994 Leading Campings (www.leadingcampings.com) has been the premier group of top
quality campsites across Europe. With 39 selected campsites in 12 countries, these are among
Europe’s very best campsites: no other group has collected more prestigious international awards.
There are extraordinary locations, extraordinary gastronomy and extraordinary accommodation.
And then there are extraordinary activities which are simply unmatched.
Spas
Caravanpark Sexten high in the Dolomites boasts an extraordinary spa and its own range of rossonero
cosmetics. There are no less than 16 different treatments including Finnish sauna, King Salt
grotto, Roman-style heated Calidarium, chocolate massage, underground sauna and many more,
even a Tyrolean hay bath.
Swimming pools
Many campsites feature elaborate pool complexes but only SportCamp Woferlgut in Austria has a
brand new indoor Olympic sized pool (50 metres long). If it’s size you’re after, the 6,000 square
metre pool at Camping La Marina in Spain has life-sized elephants and hippos at the water’s edge.
Pro football camps
Strandcamping Waging in Bavaria runs a popular camp with professional trainers (including ex-
German national player Dieter Eckstein) for young players aged 6-14 years eager to hone their
skills on holiday
Golf
Many campsites are not far from a golf course. Only Holmernhof Dreiquellenbad in Germany has
nine 18 hole courses close by, along with its own pitch and putt course and driving range, making
it perhaps the hottest golf spot in Europe.
High rope courses
Aerial ropeways, up in the tree canopy, are not often seen on a campsite but Leading Campings
Südsee-Camp and Havelberge in Germany have their own. At Hallingdal Feriepark near the
Norwegian fjords guests can cross the river on a zip-line or explore the aerial climbing park.
Canoeing
Paddle through the stunning Ardèche gorges in southern France directly from Camping Nature
Parc L’Ardèchois – no need to take a minibus excursion just to reach the start point.
Comments the Director Eicke Schüürmann: “At Leading Campings our aim is to make the ordinary
extraordinary. Our campsites have a range of activities as you would expect, but wherever
possible we ensure these are unique and truly exceptional”.
