CARAVAN SALON DÜSSELDORF 2013: 7 Dream Tours Around the World
The Fascination of Caravanning: Experience Heavenly Trips Around the Globe, in the Heart of South America and Along Route 66.
CARAVAN SALON DÜSSELDORF (31 August to 8 September 2013) is exactly the right place to become enrolled in the fascination of caravanning. And the best place there to get a taste of this fervour is in the popular Dream Tour Cinema. This year, Janette Emerich and Uwe Hamm carry visitors off into the heart of South America and along Route 66. The film presentation by Konstantin Abert is especially spectacular. It documents his caravan trip around the globe in fascinating images. Admission to the daily shows is included in the CARAVAN SALON ticket price.
An Unbelievable World Trip: Around the Globe in a Caravan
For seven years now, SeaBridge Tours has organised long-distance trips in South America, Africa and Asia. Now the organisers have kicked it up a notch. In the space of two years, almost 50 countries will be visited with 25 of their own caravans. Visitors of CARAVAN SALON DÜSSELDORF can experience a piece of this bare-knuckle caravan expedition – the largest of its kind in history – up-close and real at the Dream Tour Cinema. There are also reports of travel experiences in India, Bhutan, Burma, Bangladesh, Thailand, China, Russia and the Ukraine, among others.
Travelling to India on land is truly a major challenge for automotive engineering, caravan driving skills and human patience. The journey through the Caucasus Mountains, Iran and Pakistan could be considered a mere warm-up – it gets really adventurous in India at the latest. Archaic modes of transportation collide with the new mobility. Left-hand traffic, two-, three- and four-wheel vehicles, monkeys, camels, buffalo and holy cows guarantee the ultimate driving experience!
Never before have countries such as Bangladesh, Bhutan and Burma been traversed by caravan. There is a motto, however, for the ongoing world trip: “There is no such thing as impossible.” Dream Tour Cinema visitors can join Konstantin Abert climbing field-road wide mountain passes with gaping chasms in heady heights to reach Bhutan. Happy, satisfied people in a breathtaking alpine landscape are the icing on the cake after an unforgettable trip through the yet unscathed Himalayan state.
Manoeuvring your own vehicle through the arterial roads of the Indochina Peninsula is also quite a challenge. South Asian mega-metropolises in Thailand, Laos, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Indonesia and Timor fascinate the tour party every bit as much as the incessant smiles of the local inhabitants. The passages through the spectacular primeval forest and mountain landscapes are an enchantment of the highest order. A foray through the Ukraine and Russia round out the little world tour and leave the visitors’ adventure fever on the rise.
The Heart of South America: A Journey to the Realm of the Incas
South America experts Janette Emerich and Uwe Hamm carry Dream Tour Cinema visitors to the exotic world of the Incas with its mysterious Incan structures. A 30-minute firework of images has the audience scaling the highest Andean passes, crossing the Atacama Desert – the driest desert in the world – and marvelling at the llama and alpaca herds that graze peacefully on snow-covered volcanoes. A side trip to fascinating cities such as La Paz or Lima, with their colourful marketplaces and oh-so-foreign people and products, is an absolute must. At the end of the film, the caravans are parked in front of the impressive Iguazu Falls. Nestled in rich tropical vegetation, these have to be the most beautiful waterfalls in the world. The lively video sequences are almost like being right in the middle of this fantastic scenery. The presentation leaves you wanting to jump on the next airplane and get caravanning.
Route 66: The Legend Lives!
The dream comes to life again after a deep sleep! Today, Route 66 symbolizes freedom, independence, adventure and a desire to travel – and is a nostalgic-sentimental icon for the “good old days”. With a loving eye for detail, Janette Emerich and Uwe Hamm present a colourful image show: Restored gas stations, diners, run-down buildings, well-kept old-timers –motifs reminiscent of the Fifties and representative of the route’s heyday. Dream Tour Cinema visitors can look forward to a journey through time that stretches from Chicago to Los Angeles. And there is much more than the relicts of Route 66 to marvel at on this trip through the heart of America: The journey also takes us to Chicago with its impressive skyline, as well as cities such as St. Louis, Oklahoma City, Amarillo, Santa Fe and Albuquerque. The breathtaking Grand Canyon is a scenic highlight. From Las Vegas, the journey finally goes through the Mojave Desert to Los Angeles, where Route 66 ends.
