HURST FAMILY REACH 100TH VISIT ON THEIR #FACE2FACEBOOK EUROPEAN MOTORHOMING ADVENTURE

With over 2,000 miles completed, writer David Hurst and his family have made their 100th visit to friends and family on their #Face2Facebook motorhoming journey across Europe, which is being supported by The Camping and Caravanning Club.

And even more astonishing is the short amount time the Hursts have taken to reach this target. David, his wife Debs, sons Daniel and Darley (aged 5 and 3) and Mr Colin Dog (a lively collie) left their home in Devon on Friday 3 October and have already travelled the length and breadth of the country.

The family have been on a mission to demonstrate how camping encourages stronger relationships by visiting close family and friends, meeting them in person rather than through a computer screen as many do in our increasingly busy lives.

The family’s 100th visit came in the shape of their old friends James, Candy and their three-year-old son Sam, plus dog Bix.

The couple met James in Kingston-upon-Thames more than 10 years ago however they lost touch and only by chance did they meet again in Devon years later. Unfortunately, recently James and his family left the area and moved to Aberdeen which is where the Hursts finally caught back up with them.

David said: “Without the motorhome I can imagine it could have been years until we’d have seen each other, and I wasn’t going to allow that to happen again! It’s not just us grown-ups that are best friends– the children are too – so we were absolutely delighted to see them.

“Travelling up to Scotland in the motorhome has been a joy. Stopping whenever we wanted for a cuppa, the boys and Mr Colin Dog can have a little run around in the van, plus staying at Camping and Caravanning Club Sites with the ducks and lakes and rivers – and all-important playgrounds.”

Other highlights of the Hursts #Face2Facebook motorhoming journey include meeting actor and comedy writer Dan Skinner, bestselling author Ben Hatch, Guardian journalist Simon Hattenstone plus many other close family and friends.

David and Debs have both been very moved by the journey and they said: “So far every meeting has been very special – it’s been great to actually hug people rather than see them on a flat screen.

“We’ve met friends’ children for the first time and vice versa, and the children have all played happily together. We hope this is the start of some friendships there that will last a lifetime.”

Robert Louden MBE, the Club’s Director General added: “Not only is camping an inexpensive pastime, it’s also a fantastic way to travel and brings real richness into people’s lives which the Hursts are certainly demonstrating.

“We wish them all the very best of luck for the rest of the UK journey and we look forward to reading about more of their #Face2Facebook experiences.”
