Jeep Thrills – world’s most extreme staycation hotspot – a hanging tent!

Jeep has opened quite possibly the world’s most extreme staycation hotspot – a hanging tent suspended nearly 250 feet above The O2 in London.

The Renegade Motel will open for bookings  with adventurous, staycationing people able to apply to stay for free for one night on 18 or 19 September.

Perfectly balancing adventure and urban living, the world’s first urban cliff camping Motel has opened to celebrate the arrival of the new Jeep Renegade 4xe plug-in hybrid, which is on sale now.

For any Brits looking to end the summer with a once-in-lifetime staycation experience, this stay will live long in the memory. A head for heights and sense of adventure is a must as the climb is not for the faint-hearted.

The Motel, an innovative hanging tent system known as a portaledge, has been fixed 70 metres above the ground to one of the yellow pylons on The O2.

Lucky thrill-seeking guests will be able to spend the night on the ledge and watch the sun set and rise over Canary Wharf, one of London’s most famous skylines.

The Motel experience, offering dinner, bed and breakfast and 24-hour concierge, comes equipped with a number of features inspired by the new Renegade PHEV. These include a wi-fi hotspot, Amazon Alexa connectivity – which in addition to the useful functionality also links to their awaiting Renegade 4xe on the ground – and a portable power supply charged by the hybrid Renegade.

Of course, important basics such as a rain cover to protect guests from the Great British elements and a couple of very warm sleeping bags are also supplied.

In addition to the unique accommodation, guests will get to travel to the Motel in a new Jeep Renegade 4xe plug-in hybrid, which is delivered straight to their front door. And thanks to the electrification of the Renegade 4xe, Motel guests will enjoy 26 miles of pure electric driving* on the way to The O2 while being exempt from paying the London Congestion Charge and Ultra-Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) fee.

On arrival, Motel guests will get a sneak peak of where they’ll sleep that night while they enjoy The O2’s roofwalk experience, Up at The O2. They will then dine in The O2 before heading up to their Renegade Motel ‘room’ for the most epic Motel stay ever.

Damien Dally, country manager Jeep UK, said; “Jeep has always been known as a brand that enables its drivers to fulfil their outdoor adventures. With the launch of our Renegade 4xe plug-in hybrid we now have a car that makes urban exploring even more accessible. No Congestion Charge, no ULEZ, just adventure.

“By suspending the world’s first urban cliff camping Motel on The O2 roof, we’re giving Brits a unique opportunity to see and enjoy London from an exhilarating new vantage point. We won’t be stopping there, with our Renegade Roof Top Motel we are planning a tour to other well-loved UK cities to offer even more spectacular views.”

Steve Sayer, VP and GM of The O2, added: “We’re thrilled that Jeep has chosen our venue for the first ever urban cliff camping Motel and we’re really looking forward to seeing it suspended from one of our iconic yellow pylons. The guests are in for a real treat and will experience some amazing views of London during their stay in the Renegade Motel.”

Following the launch of The Renegade Motel at The O2, Jeep will then be introducing Renegade ‘Roof Top’ Motels in a select number of UK city locations.

Brits will again be given the new Jeep Renegade plug-in hybrid to drive to their ‘room with a view’, however, this time, they will be taking their accommodation with them – in the form of a TentBox, a portable pop-up tent that sits on the roof of the Renegade 4xe.

While offering the same benefits as the Renegade Motel at The O2, the Renegade ‘Roof Top’ Motels are likely to be a more welcome accommodation option for guests who aren’t necessarily the biggest fans of heights but still want a taste of urban adventure.
