No room at the Inn? No problem – Camplify has a Van-cation solution this Festive Season

If the spare bedroom isn’t up for grabs at the family home this Christmas, perhaps the driveway is? Camplify, the UK’s fastest-growing campervan, motorhome and caravan sharing community, can provide both your cost-effective travel and accommodation this Christmas.

Research from Legal & General suggests that 1 in 4 over 55 years old planned to downsize this year*, making up 24 per cent of UK households in the 55yr+ bracket; an enormous 2.9million homes that may no longer have a spare room for guests this Christmas**.

As a result, many UK Gen X, Millennials and Gen Z may no longer have the option to return to their childhood bedrooms after a day of indulgence, and one too many servings of Christmas pudding this Christmas.

Camplify suggests it’s time to start thinking outside the box when it comes to safe and convenient accommodation across the United Kingdom this holiday season.

“Camplify has hundreds of self-contained motorhomes and campervans up and down the UK which not only provide self-drive and location convenience and excellent value, but a level of freedom, excitement and in some cases, real luxury,” said Marie Carponi, Head of Camplify’s EU and UK operations.

A heated 4 berth luxury glamper-van in Chislehurst, equipped with Rituals toiletries, a Nespresso machine and The White Company bedding, provides as much luxury as a Knightsbridge hotel room, at half the cost, and it can be conveniently parked within walking distance from your Christmas event.

If you’re feeling particularly festive, and hoping for a white Christmas, Camplify has the UK’s only ‘Chaletvan’, a 2008 Fiat Ducato converted into a ‘Heidi-style’ Alpine chalet on wheels. But you’ll have to pack your thermals, as Chaletvan doesn’t have heating.

Jackie Manning downsized to a smaller home in Bury St Edmunds. Come Christmas 2020 she needed some extra space for when her sons came to stay for the festive period. Jackie used Camplify to hire a 4 berth caravan called ‘Madge’, which was delivered by the owner to her home, and set up on the driveway ready to go.

Jackie shared: ‘’We were really pleased to find a caravan to hire using Camplify. It was a great success. Parking it in our drive gave us the extra room needed and space for our grown children to escape too from their parents’’.

Many people and families in the UK are turning to recreational vehicles (RVs) for their holidays and beyond. Camplify recorded a 51% increase in booking requests this year  year-on-year(for the 12 months to 31 August 2021), and an enormous 141% increase in paid bookings during the same period.

Recent data shows the touring caravan, motorhome and campervan holiday home industry contributes more than £6 billion per annum to the UK economy**. Where camping may once have been a nostalgic annual ritual, the UK is seeing an upturn as a result of the pandemic-driven UK ‘staycation’. A new generation of campers are once again relishing life in the slow lane. The boho #VanLife Instagram movement (over 6 million photos), quality family time and pet-friendly holidays are some of the many factors fuelling a new golden era for caravanning, especially if it means an easy escape from the annual family argument over who must wash up the turkey tin!

Marie Carponi added, “’We’ve seen a huge amount of interest in van life this year, and it makes great sense to self-drive your way back ‘home’ in a Camplify van during the festive period too.”

If you have a van that’s not being used on your driveway this Christmas – why not put it to work, and start carav-earning? Camplify reports a 61% increase in listed vehicles on their UK sharing platform in the past two years (to end Sept 2021). Sharing your van with those seeking a spare room this Christmas and beyond is proving a profitable and safe way for owners to boost their income, earning up to £10,000 a year by hiring out their campervans, motorhomes as well as touring and static caravans on Camplify.co.uk
