To enjoy the romance and adventure of memorable times spent in a campervan or caravan, some ongoing repairs and maintenance are required to ensure that the leisure vehicle is kept in ‘ship-shape’. Recently, a very interesting book from Veloce Publishing landed on our desk. Entitled ‘Do your own caravan or motorhome habitation check’ brought home the message that this regular inspection habit will ensure that the mobile unit is kept safe for all to use and enjoy. And that’s not all, time and money are saved too!

This A5 sized 64 page softback explains all and covers the working items from the batteries, electrical system, gas flow, plumbing, ventilation, water supply and damp testing.

As the author Keith Shephard explained: “Stay safe and save money! Do your own caravan or motorhome habitation check with this D-I-Y guide.” Londoner Kevin has had a career in the automotive industry and a leisure vehicle enthusiast and over the past two decades, designed and built his own campers. His advice is well written and easily explained, supported by up to 62 photos.

Some aspects cover preventative maintenance, which are worth carrying out, especially as the investment needs to be protected, while helping to retain high residuals, not to mention keeping within the warranty agreement.

After a short explanation, Keith begins with listing out the tools needed, where to get them and at the most economical cost. Keeping a written record of all the transactions and actions taken are most important, so that everything is passed and approved before the seasonal journeys begin. For quick reference, the A-Z index can be found inside the back cover. With this book the leisure vehicle owner will get to know all about their leisure vehicle, all the more. Jarlath Sweeney
