On what would’ve been the opening day of the 2021 Caravan, Camping and Motorhome Show, Whale hosted their very first virtual RV event live from their Head Office in Bangor, County Down.

The event included a tour of the Whale facilities, an introduction to the new Whale Van Life website, an overview of the Whale heating, water and utility product ranges, and a live Q&A session with Mobile Director Mark Walmsley, and Engineering Director Richard Bovill. In-house Design Manager Andrew Peoples also provided some insight into the Whale Easi-Slide Socket range, explaining where the idea came from and how the range has expanded over the years.

Attendees also heard a testimonial from full-time motorhomers Marmalade Tour, who quit their jobs almost two years ago and now travel the world with their two children and two dogs in their Compass Avantgarde 196 Motorhome. The 6-berth Avantgarde is fitted with the Whale CompleteHeat System comprising of the Whale Expanse 8L Water Heater and Whale Heat Air 5 GTE Space Heater. Talking about one of their very first experiences of the heating system, Michelle from Marmalade Tour said, “We spent two and a half weeks in the Swiss Alps in minus 6 temperatures, and you wouldn’t have even known! We would open the door and we couldn’t believe the snow around us. We’d go out and come back and the van was so toasty and warm.”

Mobile Director Mark Walmsley added: “I’d like to thank everyone who was able to join our first ever virtual event. It was a great success and we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. Congratulations goes to our competition winners Chris Apperley who won a Cadac BBQ and Whale Easi-Slide BBQ Socket, and Sammy Faircloth who won a Whale Goodie Bag.

2020 was an important year for Whale as it marked the 10th anniversary since we first introduced our space and water heaters to the UK RV market. If not for the pandemic we would have celebrated this milestone with you all in person at last year’s Motorhome and Caravan Show, but we are grateful we got to mark the occasion in this unique way.”

The Whale Heating Timeline

Whale’s first heating products to be launched into the UK RV market back in 2010 were the 13L Water Heater and 2kW Gas and Electric Space Heater. In 2014, Whale followed this with the more powerful 4kW Gas and Electric Space heater, designed to be fitted under the floor of the vehicle to free up valuable living and storage space.

2015 was another important milestone for the company; launching their Expanse 8L Underfloor Gas and Electric Water Heater and becoming the first company to offer a complete underfloor LPG heating system to the market.

Between 2015 and 2019 Whale applied their learnings to the design and development of the Heat Air product range. This was launched in October 2019 with both gas, and gas and electric options available. This ensured Whale were able to offer a versatile, comprehensive underfloor heating system going into the 2020 season.

The latest addition to the Heat Air family is the high-powered 3 GT gas space heater. Specifically introduced for campervans and smaller panel van conversions, the Heat Air 3 GT is especially suitable for the VW Transporter and Ford Custom. Both compact and lightweight, it’s the perfect heating solution for smaller vans and provides two power settings: low (1.4kW) and high (3.3kW).

To find out more about the Heat Air 3 GT and other van conversion products, visit www.whalevanlife.com. The new website is dedicated to helping you convert your van into a campervan or panel van. It even features a convertors page where you can select your van type and see all suitable products. Whether you’re working on a conversion, just thinking about it or already have one and just want to add to it, Whale produces high quality products for all van shapes and sizes that give you complete freedom to design your van how you want.
