It’s no secret that cycling has never been a more popular pursuit, with countless millions of us keen to experience the simple thrills of biking, both on the roads and throughout our nation’s stunningly varied countryside. There’s only one problem with cycling (other than the questionable fashion choices of some of its participants of course), and that’s that transporting a bike can be a pretty tricky process if you don’t happen to own a van or similar sized car. The good news is that Summit’s range of cycle carriers is exhaustive, and the firm has opted to throw the spotlight on a pair of its most popular offerings; a High Bike Rear Cycle Carrier & Scissor Towball Cycle Carrier

It’s worth dwelling on why these carriers are such a good idea, even if you’re fortunate enough to own a vehicle large enough to hold one internally. By their very nature, bikes get muddy; wheels become clogged with dirt, chains ooze liberal quantities of oil and tyres need little encouragement to coat your boot with stones and other undesirable additions. It’s also fair to say that transporting a bike severely restricts your boot space, making it a far from ideal for those planning on doing anything other than cycling on their jaunt away. Summit cycle carriers are a superb upgrade therefore.

Summit’s first offering is a High Bike Rear Cycle Carrier, which, as the name implies, mounts neatly on the upper portion of the car in question’s tailgate/boot. Based around a universal design (one which will fit most makes of car), the High Lift Carrier can accommodate all kinds of bicycle and can carry a maximum of 3 at any one time (each weighing 15kg max). It also sports a number of innovative features intended to promote safety, including anti-bounce lower straps, steel buckles, strong 25mm diameter tubing throughout, and a design which ensures that the rear number plate is visible at all times – no need for a light bar. It can also comes fully assembled for easy fitment, and can be folded flat for simple, space efficient storage.

The second Summit carrier is of a contrasting design, one developed to mount using a vehicle’s tow-bar. It’s a classic means of retaining a pair of 15kg bikes and can be counted upon to remain in place in all conditions, and is therefore ideal for those that partake in regular bike trips to all four corners of the country. Straightforward to fit and remove, the Scissor Towball Carrier fits all kinds of bikes and most makes of car.

Whichever kind of rail they opt opt to go for, buyers can rest assured that they’re getting a quality product from an acknowledged industry heavyweight. The majority of Summit’s offerings sport full TUV approval, Germany’s legendarily stringent type approval process, and guarantee of both quality and value.

Easy to fit, long lasting, keenly priced and great looking to boot, Summit’s range of cycle carriers are a no-brainer for anyone grappling with the need to transport both bikes and luggage.

Price:
High Bike Rear Cycle Carrier – SUM-601 – £35
Scissor Towball Cycle Carrier – SUM-608 – £29
