Irish Self Catering Federation holds Regional Meeting at Lough Lanagh Village, Castlebar

At the recently renovated Lough Lanagh Village in Castlebar, County Mayo, the Irish Self Catering Federation (ISCF) held a regional cluster meeting. Chairperson is Jacinta Doolan, along with committee members welcomed attendees and outlined the significance of the sector to the Irish socio-economy. Among the benefits and activities highlighted by Jacinta were:

  • Based on visitor spend, Irish self-catering is worth over €250m to Ireland’s annual economy.
  • Ireland has over 8,500 self-catering properties, with over 80% providing an online booking system.
  • The average number of visitor nights equated to 2.94 million per annum.
  • The majority of properties are open all year round.
  • The sector is mature with the majority of operation owning their property for five years plus (average being 20 years)
  • This supports 7,225 tourism related jobs = 3% of total tourism jobs

From a recent survey conducted by the ISCF, visitor satisfaction is high with visitors rating the following as excellent or very good:

  • Ease of booking – 100%
  • Hospitality – 91%
  • Service – 91%
  • Accommodation – 82%

Over 75% of visitors come from overseas with the top areas being:

  • America (27%)
  • European (23%)
  • Britain (17%)

About the ISCF

The Irish Self Catering Federation (ISCF) is the sole representative and lobbying body for owners of self-catering properties in Ireland, recognised as such by consultative bodies, Local & Central Government and every leading tourism group. Established in 1998, its aim is to promote and defend the interests of owners giving voice to issues affecting the sector.

The Irish Self Catering Federation represents members who market 5,000 holiday homes in Ireland and employ 7,000 people, both on a full time and seasonal basis throughout Ireland in the tourism sector.

Its registered office is based in Enniscorthy, County Wexford and has an Executive Council representing both group and individual members in the different regions.

Jacinta Doolan, the current Chairperson, is founder member and co-owner of Trident Holiday Homes, a company engaged in the marketing and management of holiday homes throughout Ireland. Jacinta has been an influential member of ISCF since its foundation and brings with her a wealth of experience gained over 30 years, in the wider tourism sector.

ISCF is a member of the Irish Tourism Industry (ITIC) & European Holiday Homes Association (EHHA).

Being a member provides numerous networking opportunities such as many bookings are linked with a local activities/event; links to local hotels/guest houses; puts local area on the map; makes the experience more rewarding; get better understanding of the sector
